Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is at the forefront of setting industry standards for providing innovative and sustainable power solutions to the people of Malaysia. To support their mission, SW1 was entrusted with the design of TNB’s new office within a state-of-the-art GBI Platinum HQ. This ambitious development encompasses various facilities, including a Business Centre, Art Gallery, Clinic, Gymnasium, Childcare Centre, Retail Area, Meeting Suites, Centralised Suraus, Food Court, Convention Centre, Pelitawanis, Society Buildings, and four Office Towers, totaling a gross built-up area of 1.6 million square feet.
Our approach began by comprehending TNB’s inclination towards modern workplace practices, emphasizing flexibility and agility. Collaborating closely with TNB leadership and staff through Change Management initiatives, we identified opportunities to enhance engagement for a multi-generational workforce. The resulting design introduced collaborative and adaptable spaces, fostering a future-proof campus where employees can socialize, collaborate, brainstorm, and hold creative sessions.
Our primary objective was to create a forward-looking office that promotes innovation and creativity while prioritizing the well-being of TNB’s people. The campus environment seeks to strike a work-life balance, making a strong statement about TNB’s commitment to its community. By nurturing participation and collaboration, we aim to enhance employee enjoyment, fulfillment, and productivity. The facility’s design is not only visually striking to visitors but also conducive to the well-being of its occupants.
Our journey commenced with a design workshop involving key stakeholders and top management. This allowed us to gather input and feedback, resulting in the establishment of guiding principles for the “Platinum” concept. These principles include Sustainable Design, Innovative Technology, Comfort, Flexibility, and Inclusivity, all of which were translated into the physical space.
Utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM), we optimized space utilization while preserving identified features. The resulting workplace offers various settings for collaboration, socialization, focus, and relaxation, empowering employees to switch between work modes. Furthermore, BIM aids operations and maintenance by providing insights into occupancy, wear and tear, and energy consumption, enhancing communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
In summary, TNB’s new workplace promotes collaboration, socialization, focus, and well-being, reflecting the company’s vision for the future. This dynamic environment, spanning various facilities, serves as a vibrant hub for TNB’s dedicated community, fostering productivity and innovation.
